From Design Direction to Production-ready Mesh Samples

Sampling is managed as a sequence of decisions, not a single sewing task. The first version should reveal fabric behavior, fit, support, placement and workmanship questions early enough for effective correction.

Project Alignment

The sample purpose is defined first: visual concept, fit approval, photo sample, PP basis or bulk readiness. A sample built for photography may not yet contain every production component, while a PP basis must carry final materials and workmanship standards.

Controlling Embellishment Placement Across Every Size

Size grading changes more than garment measurements. Bust points move, necklines widen, waist lengths change and seam positions shift. Decoration placement must follow body and pattern landmarks or the visual design will drift as the range expands. 

Bust and Neckline Mapping

Motifs around cups, bust points and necklines are anchored to structural references. A fixed print-style enlargement can place stones too high on smaller sizes or too far apart on larger sizes. Safety clearance is maintained near neckline edges and armholes so decoration does not reduce comfort or enter seam allowances after grading.

Waist and Side-seam Control

Waist borders and radiating motifs are connected to the graded waistline, not to a fixed distance from the garment edge. Side-seam clearance is reviewed in each size group. Where a motif cannot scale continuously, controlled repeats, added spaces or redesigned side panels preserve visual rhythm without forcing decoration into the seam.

Hem Borders and Long Motifs

Mini, midi and maxi lengths may use different border logic. A hem motif can remain fixed in height while the body repeat changes, or scale by length group according to the design priority. Long vertical motifs are checked for straightness after stretch and for alignment with panel seams, slits and center lines.

Size Verification Method

Base-size approval is followed by placement charts, graded pattern references and selected size checks. High-risk styles may require a size-set or partial size verification before bulk cutting. Critical points include bust motif position, neckline clearance, waist border height, side-seam clearance, slit relationship and overall decoration density.

Construction Details That Protect Appearance and Comfort

Close-up workmanship reveals whether the style has been developed for real wear and repeat production. Each detail below should be photographed from both the face and reverse side when the final website assets are prepared.

Clean Seam Allowance

Decorative pieces are removed or redirected before joining panels, leaving a controlled seam allowance. The finished seam remains flatter, easier to inspect and less likely to scratch the body.

Motif Clearance

Stones, beads and sequins keep defined clearance from zippers, darts, armholes, hems and edge bindings. Clearance values are recorded by operation rather than decided by each sewing operator.

Lining Attachment

Inner layers are secured at selected seams and support points so they do not twist, pull the outer mesh or show through sheer sections. Attachment method follows the stretch direction and garment movement.

Zipper Backing

18-style Beaded Mesh Occasionwear Program

Program scope: 18 styles, 4 color families, XS-XL sizing and 36,000 total units for a seasonal occasionwear launch. The range included six bodycon minis, four corset midis, three halter styles, three mesh-overlay maxis and two coordinated sets. Decoration combined bugle beads, pearls, sequins and selected rhinestone highlights across stretch tulle, power mesh and non-stretch overlay bases.

Main challenge: the original concept used similar motif density across every silhouette. On fitted styles the bead rows restricted recovery; on maxis the same density created excessive skirt weight. Several motifs also crossed zipper and side-seam areas, while a single lining solution reduced the intended transparency on halter and backless pieces.

Development response: Duolan divided the range into three construction families. Bodycon styles received stretch-aware motif gaps and compatible lining recovery. Corset styles used structured inner bodies with decorative mesh applied after fit stabilization. Overlay maxis shifted weight toward waist suspension and reduced low-value density in the lower skirt. Placement charts were linked to bust, waist and seam landmarks across five sizes. Material and craft trials were approved before full sampling, followed by fit revisions and PP readiness checks.

Production result: the 18 styles were assigned to separate routes for fitted stretch, structured corset and floating overlay construction. First-piece confirmation focused on motif position, zipper clearance, lining coverage and reverse-side comfort. Reorder files preserved the final BOM, graded placement, workmanship notes and packing method for later color extensions.
